Theoretical knowledge or Practical training

today 01.05.2011

I found this interesting opinion about practical and theoretical studies at university ,do you agree or disagree with it ?

“For a long time, there have been arguments about whether university should or should not provide students with practical training while teaching theoretical knowledge. As to this matter I hold the opinion that it’s university’s function to provide students theoretical knowledge, but not necessarily it’s duty to give them practical training. It is generally considered that university is an institution which concentrates on mainly two tasks: one is cultivating people to be professional in their fields, the other is doing further research on certain aspects. These two tasks decide that university focus on theoretical knowledge, but not practical training. What’s people looking for in the further education in university? Certainly it’s knowledge and most probably the theoretical knowledge. If they are seeking for some practical training, why not they enter some kind of skill-training institution or just find a job, both of which are likely to give them many more chances of practical training than a university can afford. As people don’t resort university to get practical training, why should university provide such training which its students would not expect? ”

Reading books?!

Advantages and Disadvantages of Reading Books

Nowadays reading books seems quite old-fashion, new technology are constantly improving and slowly replacing the old sources of information such as books and newspapers. But obviously it is not possible to reject the necessity of the old traditional paper book even in the time of digital technologies we are living in.

There are many advantages in reading books, and probably the most important one is that you are given the opportunity to learn from the experience and knowledge of the author as well the chance to receive factual information or simply to enjoy yourself with interesting and entertaining stories .No matter the content of the book, you, as a reader can think about and weigh the issues mentioned from new perspective. Reading allows you to get in close contact with the writer; he or she makes you an invisible participant in the story. Another very practical advantage of books is that they are very comfortable; you can easily read them without the need of some special device.

On the other hand books have one big disadvantage, no matter what the information in them can’t be updated as that in the web pages, which is crucial in respect to the always developing world of science.

In conclusion I would say that books are irreplaceable even today when you can find everything on one click distance. Books in fact are the only thing remained which is able to make you use your own imagination.

Paulo Coelho- “Zahir”

today 20.04.2011

“Zahir” is the last book i read these days. To be honest I was quite skeptic about Paulo Coelho novels, they were just too popular and someone may say that they are just the new mania of the girls because if you ask a random woman whether she has read something from the popular Brazilian author her answer will be for sure “yes I have”.But lead by interest I decided to read the book which made Paulo the most famous author in the world -“The Al chemic”.The story grab me from the first sentence and from then on I continued to adore hi novels.

Zahir comes from Arabic,it means something like obsessiveness, which could drive you to madness if you don’t find way to release your mind and soul from it.The book tells the story of a man, whose wife try to save their love by making her popular and rich husband to leave his comfortable life in search of his old self ,capable of loving  to the limit. Its a beautiful story in which nothing is not saved from  the reader, you can find not so nice scenes in which things for which no one will ever dare to speak are shown in very elegant way.Reading this book everyone may find himself in some of the characters, but even if you don’t  associate yourself with them, there is no way not to find the wisdom  in every sentence or situation. You can find old quotes in every chapter ,you will dive in a very realistic world of love and mystery. The story has some not very realistic features like a man able to hear voices and to predict the future, but exactly these strange things makes even the grater skeptic more interested in the further development of the story .

And at the end i would like to say that I truly believe that everybody has a zahir deep inside his soul, there is no person in the world who hasn’t been in love with someone who he/she cant erase from his thought, and if you are one of these people share your personal story, like the author calls it, and discover again your love or just clear the way for a new one.
